What the Lot Says About Its Own Perimeter

This is the most carefully written line on the site, because it is the one where a phrase the trade expects can very easily become a promise nobody here is able to keep.

The four fields

What the hold asks: What does the lot state, in its own words, about the boundary around the ground the car stands on
What comes back: Whatever the lot writes back, printed as its words and marked as unverified by this counter
When to ask: At the time of the request, because the answer differs from lot to lot and changes when a lot changes hands
If it is not asked: The hold carries no line about the boundary at all, and the quote says so plainly rather than leaving a gap a reader might fill in optimistically
Where the answer came from: A written reply from the operator to a question this counter sends by email, kept with the request and repeated word for word

Why this line exists in this form

Somebody comparing parking will look for the words secure lot. The trade uses them, and a site that never addresses them looks evasive.

This counter will not claim them. It owns no ground, employs nobody on any ground, and has no way to inspect a fence, a gate or a camera. A claim about security would be a claim about somebody else's arrangements, made by a company that has not seen them.

So the phrase is handled the only honest way available: as a quotation. The counter asks the lot what it states about its boundary, and prints the reply as the lot's own words, with the lot's name withheld until a hold is actually placed, and with a line saying this counter has not verified any of it.

What a reply usually looks like

Three shapes come back, and all three are useful to a reader:

A specific description. Fencing, gate hours, whether the gate is attended at any point in the day, whether there is lighting over the ground. This is the most common and the most useful.
A general assurance. Some version of "our lot is safe". This counter prints it as the quotation it is and adds nothing to it, because a general assurance carries no checkable fact.
No reply at all. Then the hold says the question was asked and not answered. That is a fact about the lot, and a reader is entitled to it.

What this counter will never do with the answer

It will not summarize a specific description into a shorter, friendlier phrase. It will not average several lots into a single claim about the area. It will not put the words on the front page as a feature of the service. And it will not repeat an assurance as though this counter were standing behind it.

The claim this line does not make

licensed_insured is false on this site and always will be. No license number appears anywhere here in any form, and no insurance of anybody's vehicle is arranged, offered or implied by this counter. If a lot carries insurance, that is the lot's arrangement with its own insurer and has nothing to do with a hold placed through here.
